Referral Service
About the VAPP Referral Service
The Victorian Association of Psycho-analytic Psychotherapists (VAPP) runs a telephone based information and referral service for those who want to:
- explore more about psychoanalytic psychotherapy
- find a qualified therapist for adult individual, couple, adolescent or group work
The Referral Service is available for enquiries during business hours. The service is available during weekday working hours. The phone number is (03) 9427 1970.
Self Referral
If you are thinking about having therapy, but are not sure where to begin, you are welcome to phone the referral service and the therapist on duty will be able to help with your initial enquiries on the telephone. If you wish, you will be referred on to another therapist who will be available to discuss your queries at greater length and in greater depth.
When you contact the Referral Line …
The therapist on duty will help clarify your needs and can help link you in with the most appropriate assistance.
There is no cost for using the telephone referral service. If you proceed to be referred to another therapist, fees do apply. Where applicable, efforts will be made to take into account individual financial circumstances.

How to refer a patient
This telephone service is staffed by rostered members of the VAPP. The referral line provides information to health professionals to:
- Assist in referring clients for psychotherapy
- Locate suitable clinical supervision or psychoanalytic reading groups
These members will be able to discuss any specific queries there may be about the details of a particular referral. If appropriate, a suitable therapist will be suggested.
